Edward Hoagland is a writer born in New York in 1932. Hoagland has written several books of fiction but since the late 1960s he has become known almost exclusivley for his non-fiction. His first novel, Cat Man, won a Houghton Mifflin Literary Fellowship Award in 1956. The Los Angeles Times has called Hoagland "one of our best and most esteemed nature writers."
